Title- Juliet's Journey-Pray Run Hope
EVENT-
2012 LA Marathon " I run 4 Something "

Juliet will be running in the 2012 LA Marathon, Sunday, March 18th, 2012

Hello! I am Juliet Jones and I have lived in Meridian, Idaho for 7+ years. My husband and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary this year and we have two energetic children. We enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and our vibrant church communities

I Run 4 Something…
When I registered for the LA Marathon there was a space to indicate which Cause or Charity you were running for. I skipped it because I hadn’t thought about it. Over the next few weeks I received kind reminders from the organizers….what are you running for?

What am I running for?
After “running” it by some friends and praying, I decided to run for those in need and to increase the awareness of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul!
One aspect that attracts me to the Society is their willingness to help anyone in need. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are from – they see the face of Christ in everyone. They are a solid organization that I trust. I admire that they are built on the generosity of volunteers and encourage a prayer life. I know that when I give food, clothing or a monetary donation to SVdP it is used to directly help those in need. In short, SVdP offers people HOPE!

Why the LA Marathon?
I was rummaging through some files and found my old race number and newspaper clipping from 10+ years ago and the thought came to me…why not run the marathon again? It’s a good 10 year goal and it would be especially invigorating in the midst of winter.

After finding someone to put together a 17 week training program, I was off to a great start. One of the best things about this training program is that it started me out in small do-able increments. It sets a foundation and gradually builds up. It provides me with a sense of hope!

I train throughout the week on my own and the l-o-n-g runs once a week are with a girlfriend. We “save up” conversation during the week so we have plenty to keep us occupied! We have run in the bitter cold, have seen amazing sunrises, gone through plenty of energy treats, and shared our faith, joys and concerns – it has truly been a transformative time!

Running gives me clarity, helps me process whatever is on my mind and heart, keeps me in shape and, I must admit…I truly enjoy the endorphins! I pray the Rosary when I run on my own – one decade for one person; however, when the run is getting tough, I pray one Hail Mary for one person (a 1 to 1 ratio)! I have found that the Divine Mercy Chaplet is perfect to get my breathing back in rhythm. And so it goes…Pray. Run. Hope.

The poor are hungry not only for food, they are hungry to be recognized as human beings.
They are hungry for dignity and to be treated as we are treated. They are hungry for our love.
