History of St Vincent de Paul... The Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s organizational structure was outlined in 1835, two years after the founding of the Society. The Society has a simple and effective structure to support its work at all levels. The Councils of the Society provide opportunities for developing community, sharing expertise, and keeping Conferences and members in touch with the Society as a whole. In 1835 the Society formulated its Rule, a series of Articles based upon the practical experiences of the first Vincentians. Our Rule emulates our patron, St. Vincent de Paul. The Rule of the Society has continued as a blueprint for the Society for 177 years. This, alone, is a tribute to its efficacy and to the spirit by which it was inspired. As long as Charity, Humility and Simplicity exist among you, one can say: The Company of Charity is still alive.
