Home Visits

Home Visitations are the cornerstone of the ministry of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. A home visit occurs when a person in need calls the St. Vincent de Paul Helpline, 331-2208, and arranges for two Vincentians to come to his/her home. The Vincentians bring resource information and possibly limited, annual assistance with rent, utilities, or other overwhelming bills. The Vincentians may also distribute vouchers, which are exchanged for goods at the thrift stores. Most importantly, those in need receive the simple fellowship of a listening ear and caring heart. No charity is foreign to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. All funds are received through donations and all the home visitors are volunteers.

Thrift Stores

There are five St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores in the Treasure Valley.

One can find high quality, low cost goods at the stores. Shopping at the stores helps us help others! Clean, unbroken donations including: clothing, furniture, household goods, working appliances, antiques, books, etc. accepted at all locations. If you aren't sure if we can accept your donation (appliance, especially large item, etc), please call first. Donation pick-up and merchandise delivery is available.

In partnership with the Conferences, over $140,000 in goods were given to those in need via vouchers. When you donate, chances are good that your item will directly help a local family. If it is sold in the stores, we use the revenue to support programs that help others. Either way - you are helping us help others!

The stores have made concerted efforts to promote recycling and were featured twice in the Idaho Statesman for their work. The Ada County stores alone recycled 250 tons of clothing in one year! The stores recycle unsellable books, stuffed toys, shoes, backpacks, purses, belts, hats, office paper, plastics, wood, and metal.

Jesus is reliving His passion in our poor people. The poor are really going through the passion of Christ. We should treat them with dignity.....Give to Christ in His distressing disguise. It is Jesus in the poor that you feed, clothe, and take in. Do it all with a great, undivided love.
